Experimental Study of the Formation and Evolution of Gas Jets in Supersonic Combustion Chambers

A simple and efficient flow field visualization method (based on shadow imaging) was applied in a direct-connect test to explore the influence of momentum flux ratio jet angle formation evolution nitrogen jets supersonic combustion chambers. The setup adopts rectangular passage simulate flight condition with Mach number 6 altitude 25 km. experimental results showed that (a) adopted this paper can clearly register shock wave structure windward shear vortex surface. (b) process is significantly affected by angle. In particular, stretching position changed when obtuse. (c) bow shocks local distortion due periodic generation large-scale vortexes. (d) Under working conditions test, largest instability found for 120°. This work provides, one hand, basis clarifying mechanism transverse gas jets, other, valuable data be used validate numerical simulations.
